This week Facebook confirmed they are going to start auto-playing ads. This always is a controversial topic. A lot of general public do not like auto-play, myself included. I think if you do them you have to do it right. By doing it right I would suggest;

  • Don’t use Cell Data only do Wi-Fi
  • Make sure the video ad can stand on it’s own with out sound, Don’t Repurpose other video
  • Along with the previous, get creative and make the video engaging and fun

Facebook has 1.9 Billion users more then any network, create a new category of ads that live in that space, I think as marketers we need to think outside the traditional TV ad. No longer would we have to stick to 15, 30 or 60 second ads. We could make them as short or as long as we like.

Another way to set this off is to do advance targeting. The data we have with online marketing its time we start to focus ads on whats relevant to consumers rather then the Broadcast network blanket ad. When I go to YouTube on occasion I will not skip the ad if it’s relevant and fun. I have actually sat through a 2 minute ad before. So people will watch if they find it engaging and relevant.

I hope this opens a conversation how to make video better rather then have the public run from video ads online. See the video below and read the post on the Facebook for Business page
