If you logged into Twitter on the web you may have noticed something different. I did the other day and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I thought maybe they did a slight redesign of the page. It wasn’t till I started reading some blogs that they pointed out what Twitter had changed. They have removed all the background images. You maybe asking how does this affect small business?
Twitter backgrounds were great for customizing your profile. You could make images that said when you were on for customers service. Who manned the account and their accounts so customers know they were official. Also it was available to showcase new products. So you could use it to fit your needs.
If you want to customize your profile you have only two options. The first is your avatar and the second is the color of your page. It’s pretty limited for right now. I am not sure if they are planning something new as a redesign or other customizations. They are in search of a new CEO so things will definitely change.
Why did they do this? That remains unclear at the time of this post. Many blogs are speculating this was done to make ads stand out more. Revenue has always been a problem for Twitter. They are trying to make more money off the service. I am sure we will hear more about this in the weeks to come.
It’s a minor change but if you were searching through your settings on how to get this feature back. Tts gone for the time being.
