Social Media WTF Day!

Today and in the last hour its been a WTF day. By that I mean we learn that Yahoo! is shutting down Delicious Book Mark site and Facebook released the new page layout to match the profiles.

The first thing is that it was leaked that in an presentation that Delicious was in “sunset.” Meaning they were going to phase it out. Delicious is really the only service I use from Yahoo! outside of Messenger. I stopped using the email when Gmail came out and my main search engine is Google. I don’t think of Yahoo! as a company on the cutting edge of technology any more.

Delicious allowed me to read an article and quickly add it to my list and then reference it for later. The perfect example of that is when I did the podcast with Simms Jenkins, we talked about an article for the podcast, then both forgot the address. I was able to find it quickly in Delicious.

There are two options right now, the first is go old school and find articles and past the url and keywords in an Excel spreadsheet. The second is we hope someone will buy the service from Yahoo!

The next thing that has set off Twitter. Facebook rolls out the new page layout. This is one thing that is a Facebook Surprise! I think the main problem with Facebook is they do things and release them without so much as word or getting user feedback. The pages now resemble the profile pages. But, they don’t give you the option to opt in to change it. I heard that they were doing this but no date of release. The most ironic thing is they are having a Facebook is having an Office Hours tomorrow to go over pages, marketing and such. BUT, and this is a big but, the questions must be asked in advance. There will be a deluge of questions now.

The pages are missing some things, such as Tabs, post insights and links to the insights. I have used the individual post insights for my clients and its a great way to see post effectiveness. I hope it’s a temporary bug that they will be fixing. I think that Facebook should definitely give advance notice.

One good thing that I have wanted for a while is that you can now log in as your page and comment or you could actually comment as yourself. I haven’t had a chance to test this yet, but this is what I hear. Currently my Facebook is dead. I can’t log in, or pull up anything. I hope we will have more information from Mashable, Social Gurus or agency soon.

Let’s hope we get clarification asap!
Update: 4:30 PM – The iPhone app opens and crashes when you open it. So currently I have no access to Facebook
