I should have dubbed this week Photography/Picture week on Marketing Elements. Earlier this week we had Nik software and yesterday was a rant on Instagram! Well, it’s another Instagram post! This time Instagram is giving you up to 60 seconds for videos. This is a major step up for vides. There is a lot more you can do!
We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you’ll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you’ll see this year
In the last six months, the time people spent watching video increased by more than 40 percent. And longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love, whether it’s Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) hanging out with friends or beauty star Bretman Rock’s (@bretmanrock) latest makeup tutorial.
For iOS, we’re also bringing back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips from your camera roll. To learn more about multi-clip video on iOS, check out the Instagram Help Center.
Longer video on Instagram begins rolling out today and will be available for everyone in the coming months. Multi-clip video is available this week as part of Instagram for iOS version 7.19 inApple’s App Store.
Some of the best news is the ability to edit videos for the service on iOS rolling out. I, personally, love to edit videos. It can be relaxing to me and a lot of fun. However, there are way more people who see this as a hassle and would rather not do it. If there is a simple easy way to do video for the public I say bring it on! Videos have been very important in social over the last year and will continue to grow.
Why 60 seconds? Having done videos for clients and myself, 60 seconds is the top end of a video to get attention. Going longer people will move on to the next thing in their feed. No matter how much time you spend on a video making it just perfect. People want things quick. This makes it harder to catch their attention. Instagram giving everyone 60 seconds will make this a level playing field for big and small brands.
Over the next few months we will see apps come about that will help you make videos for Instagram. They will include filters, text and music. With a few selections you will have a great video. I will bring you some as I find them! In the mean time you can use iMovie (iOS), Videohance (from the makers of WordSwag) and Hyperlapse. I will actually do a post on great apps for video making!
This is rolling out and should be available to everyone in the coming months!
